Honour your mother and father so that you will live long in the land. The idea is that if the community is not in the practise of looking after the elderly people will not live long lives.  Interestingly I discovered much of this simply by consulting a few commentaries. I had confusion on what Leviticus 20:9 means, too. Your article shed light on my querries.
