“Hawking’s book argues that invoking God is not necessary to explain the origins of the universe, and that the big bang is the consequence of the laws of physics alone. Hawking has said, “One can’t prove that God doesn’t exist, but science makes God unnecessary”. Professor Lennox will discuss the flaws in Stephen Hawking’s logic and demonstrate that, far from disproving a creator, Hawking’s argument make the existence of God far more probable.”

Biography

Dr John Lennox is a Professor of Mathematics at the University of Oxford, a Fellow in Mathematics and the Philosophy of Science and Pastoral Advisor at Green Templeton College, Oxford. He is also an adjunct Lecturer at Wycliffe Hall, Oxford University and at the Oxford Centre for Christian Apologetics and is a Senior Fellow of the Trinity Forum. In addition, he teaches for the Oxford Strategic Leadership Programme at the Executive Education Centre, Said Business School, Oxford University.

He has lectured extensively in North America, Eastern and Western Europe on mathematics, the philosophy of science and the intellectual defence of Christianity. He has authored two books on the interface between science, philosophy and theology: God and Stephen Hawking and God’s Undertaker: Has Science Buried God? His debates with Christopher Hitchens on “The New Atheism” and “Is God Great” and Richard Dawkins on “Has Science Buried God?” and “The God Delusion” have been watched all over the world.

Dr Lennox is a clear an easy to follow speaker, these are definitely lay person friendly events. We are, through our role in Thinking Matters, in communication with the organisers. We will do our best to update this post as more details come through.

On Saturday 28 November we’re speaking at the All for Life Workshop; we’ll be giving a “how to” critique the common philosophical arguments for abortion rights by highlighting the flaws in the reasoning and turning the logic back on itself.
